2nd XV Match Reports![]() ![]() Carnforth 2nds 22 Vs Tyldesley 3rds 16Tydesley provided Carnforth with their first taste of home league action in their 25 year history at Kellet Road. Although it was not a game for the purists it was evident to the watching spectators that following the opening exchanges this would be a close game contested by two evenly matched sides. Solid forward play was required in the opening quarter where scrum followed scrum and a good platform was laid for the strong running Edmondson and Capling to attack the Tyldesley back line. Porter provided the first points of the day with a sweetly struck penalty midway through the first half. Tyldesley used this wake up call to string together a number of serious attacks on the Carnforth line. The home defence held strong until an imaginatively worked move allowed the visitors to take the lead with a successfully converted try. Carnforth regrouped and following some strong forward play from Saunders, Moorfoot and Sowerby earned Porter the chance to retake the lead with another solid penalty kick. On the stroke of half time a shuffling of personal by skipper Edmondson was the order of the day due to an unfortunate injury to Weatherill at fullback. Chippendale took up his customary role at the rear of the scrum which was to pay dividends later on in the match. Following the restart the pattern followed suite with scrum following scrum with hooker Collins winning the lions share of the ball. It was following another locking of horns won against the head which allowed Porter to kick for position deep in the Tyldesley half of the field. Walker rose at the pursuing line out and caused enough disruption to enable Collins to race through and touch the ball down to increase the lead to six points. Carnforth then took hold of the game and began to play with great spirit and power. The game was effectively taken away from the visitors midway through the half when following another strong srummaging display for the home side Chippendale released Porter from the back of the scrum for him to power over the line in the corner to make the score 16-5. The home side with their first league victory of the season in sight eased off in the last remaining minutes and with an uncharacteristic lapse in the defence allowed Tyldsely to cross the line for a converted try. Thankfully the alarm bells didnt ring too loud in the home sides ears and when the final whistle sounded Carnforth left the field to record their first league win of the season.
